Bench warrant ...

If I invite you to have a seat in my studio, it's very likely you may be parking your derrière on one of our hand-built or refurbished benches.

My hubby and I work perfectly as a design/build team. I design, he builds, then, I paint and/or upholster to create a finished product. Since we really needed portable seating in the studio (I constantly move things around), benches seemed like the most practical solution.

This was our first handcrafted bench, built with leftover 1" x 6" pine, stock legs (which were cut down in height) and decorative medallions purchased at Home Depot. Hubby built two of these 36"W x 18"D x 26"H benches, and I finished them in a burnished gold with upholstered cushions.

Because our stuido's antique worktable is so large, we keep adding benches to our seating inventory for guests. Digging around my hubby's workshop, I found this sweet little sewing bench that needed only a bit of work to raise its height and comfort level.

Before (left), the bench had little padding and was far too short. Hubby built a deeper seat platform, and I topped it with a foam cushion and wrapped in batting before finishing with upholstery.

Now, it fits comfortably at the table to accommodate one more guest for a wine tasting in the studio. Viola!
