There are just some images that fuel my imagination and become a permanent part of my collective consciousness.
I came across this Bukowski Auction marketing photo for their 2010 Fall Sale several months ago and became instantly drawn to the composition of the shot. This particular Swedish auction contained out of the ordinary interior design objects, including many unique items belonging to the world famous cinematographer Sven Nykvist.
Actually, the auction catalog photos intrigued me far more than the sale pieces. I believe these images were taken at the intersection of art, culture, design and commerce. As the Brits would say, the pics are 'spot on.'
Cat people? Ingenious! ... Lighting? Well-suited. ... Disparate objects? Inventively styled.
When all is said and done, I have to say that every other auction catalog now seems mundane. A note to those who are in retail sales: merchandising is supremely important and great imagery can sell just about anything!
Now, if only I knew the name(s) of the photographer/creative director/stylist responsible for this brilliant work. I have an email in to the auction house, so I'll follow up with proper credit as soon as I have a name to share.
